Position Summary

Vets Recover is seeking a dependable and clinically attentive Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide PRN nursing coverage in our residential treatment and medically managed detoxification facility.

The LPN will provide direct nursing care to individuals receiving substance use disorder treatment, including monitoring clients throughout the detoxification and residential treatment process, administering medications, completing nursing assessments, and responding appropriately to changes in client condition.

This position is ideal for an LPN who is comfortable working independently during assigned shifts while maintaining strong communication with the nursing and treatment team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to clients in a residential and medically managed detoxification setting.
  • Monitor clients for changes in physical and clinical condition, including signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other required clinical observations.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately according to provider orders, facility policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor clients for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, and changes in condition.
  • Follow established withdrawal-management and detoxification protocols.
  • Complete required nursing assessments, medication documentation, progress notes, and other clinical documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate significant changes in client condition to the appropriate provider and nursing/clinical leadership.
  • Participate in admissions, transfers, and discharges as assigned.
  • Maintain medication security, storage, administration, and documentation in accordance with facility policy and applicable requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent or emergent medical situations and activate emergency services when indicated.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for clients.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, families, providers, peers, and other members of the treatment team.
  • Follow Vets Recover policies and procedures, applicable Alabama requirements, and established standards of care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect client health information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy.
  • Complete other nursing duties within the LPN scope of practice as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted Alabama Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification from a recognized provider.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate clinical observations and notifications within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Ability to accurately document clinical care and medication administration.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and provide PRN coverage based on facility needs.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and provide respectful, compassionate care to individuals receiving behavioral health and substance use disorder services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in substance use disorder treatment, detoxification, behavioral health, residential treatment, emergency care, or another comparable clinical setting.
  • Experience with withdrawal monitoring and medication administration.
  • Experience working overnight or in a residential healthcare setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a residential behavioral health and medically managed detoxification facility. The LPN may work with clients experiencing substance withdrawal and other behavioral or medical concerns and must be able to respond appropriately to changes in client condition.
